Cosmo Films Ltd., A Brand Name in Film Packaging Industry

Ashok Jaipuria, the son of late Sitaram Jaipuria, former CEO of the Swadeshi Polytex, is the name behind the brand Cosmo Films Ltd. (CFL). He is the name behind the manufacture of BOPP (biaxially – oriented polypropylene) film that is used in large scale for packaging of products. The company was established in 1976 and after four years it went public.

Cosmo Films Ltd. conducts two plants in Maharashtra, one is at Chikalthana and the other at Waluj, both in the district of Aurangabad. They have the production capacity of combined 23100 MTPA of BOPP and Synthetic Paper. CFL is the first to have ISO 9002 certified biaxially oriented polypropylene manufacturing. CFL is going to start with it’s other project that it has taken up at the same location near Waluj.

This company entered into the world of exporting products from 1994 onwards. Since the competition for the products in the market has been rising, and with that the demand for CFL products is also going high. For meeting the demand of its products, the company has taken up another plant for the manufacturing work of BOPP films in the Aurangabad district itself, in the Waluj Industrial Area.

For scaling up its installed capacity, CFL took up debottlenecking programme in 1996-97. Once again the company scaled up its installed capacity in 1997-98 to 14,100 MT. The company now is looking forward for buying a land in Nashik, Maharashtra as well in collaboration with the US company, General Electric. Cosmo Films became conventional in 1986 and in the world of BOPP Films, it is the second largest company with a big brand name and share of 27% in the market.

The company has an outstanding experience in the development of specialised products used in high end packaging applications. Cosmo Films clients range from Hindustan Lever, Nestle India to ITC, Britania and even Godfrey Philips India. It also has plants in Baroda.

This big brand has, at present, a total installed capacity of BOPP films of 48600 MT.
