An Overview and Applications of PVC Coated Films

PVC Coated Films are basically used to protect your material from getting damaged due to moisture, dirt or scratches and to keep it protected. It increases the quality of your product as well. There are four kinds of PVC coatings that are used for commercial printing and they are overprint varnish, lamination, aqueous coating, and Ultra violet coating. These are provided in matte, dull or satin, and gloss formulations.

Overprint Varnish

Varnish keeps your stuff protected from exposure to moisture, dirt or scratches. This is not expensive at all. This can be applied in two ways: either in the overall printed area or to some parts of the product in order to highlight it. It makes the images look sharp and bright.

Aqueous Coating

Aqueous coatings lie somewhere between varnish and UV coatings. It is used mainly as a smudge and fingerprint resistant as they have fast- drying quality. They provide more safety than varnish coating. These are not water resistant because the ink needs to dry completely. The more satin a sheet will be, the less rub resistant it would be. Well, if you want the coating to be more rub resistant, then it would be less glossy.

People generally prefer aqueous over varnish because of aqueous being highly satin, it does not get yellow with time, has also high rub resistance, and since it is based on whether it is eco – friendly. But yes, it is not water resistant.

Laminate

Laminate is available in two kinds: one is a film based, the other is liquid based. Laminate is more inexpensive than the varnish and aqueous coatings, but it is more water resistant and provides a washable and potent surface.

UV Coating

This coating is used to highlight the content or product because of its high glossy character. It is also vulcanized by ultraviolet lamps. It has instant drying features and is water based.

Above mentioned coating has their pros and cons, but the selection of the coating varies with the type of product you want to use it on.
